Zen River Art
(Philosophy)
“To the version of me who once believed, ‘I have nothing to offer’—this is what I want to say:
What you already hold in your hands has the power to change your life.
“To the version of me who once believed, ‘I have nothing to offer’—
this is what I want to say:
What you already hold in your hands has the power to change your life.
After moving to the United States, everything changed.
Surrounded by language barriers and cultural differences, I found myself once again questioning my purpose and place in the world.
It was calligraphy that reconnected me to society.
What began as volunteer work grew into teaching at elementary, middle, and high schools—and eventually expanded to the university level.
Before I knew it, calligraphy had become more than just a skill.
It became a way to connect people and a means of bringing my value into the world.
Calligraphy is not reserved for a select few.
For many, it is something they first encountered as children.
When you pick up a brush, your posture aligns, your breathing settles, and your mind becomes calm.
That is why I want to share this message:
Living abroad gives this power even greater meaning.
You don’t need to feel confident in your language skills.
Your calligraphy doesn’t have to be perfect.
The skills and knowledge you already have are needed by someone.
“I wish I had found this sooner.”
“This was eye-opening.”
The teaching methods that inspire these words are built on years of trial and error from my own journey.
In this course, I offer more than just calligraphy techniques.
I will show you how to reconnect with society and create meaningful connections through your own abilities while living abroad.
Please don’t let the potential within you remain untapped.
The next step is yours.”

I was born in Kyoto, now based in the United States.
I have been practicing calligraphy for nearly half a century.
It has been 20 years since I moved to the U.S. I live with my family and a dog.
I'm having calligraphy classes across Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky. In addition, I teach students from all over the world through online courses.
Although I am now active as a professional calligrapher in the U.S., this was not the path I originally set out on. After graduating from university, I began working at a company. Yet the questions never left me: “Is this really enough?” “Don’t I want to live more authentically?” Eventually, I started my own business in Japan as a floral artist, producing wedding arrangements. Through that work, I experienced the true value of creating joy for others with my own hands. However, after moving to the U.S., I stepped away from my career.
When my youngest child started school, I returned to the workforce in America. But office work was not where I belonged as an artist. As I searched for a new path, one thought came to me—
“Because I am in America… this is exactly why I should pursue calligraphy.”
In Japan, I never had the courage to step into the traditional and often intimidating world of calligraphy. Yet somehow, in the U.S., I found myself naturally stepping beyond that invisible barrier.
Over the past 12 years, I have encountered countless people and experienced many worlds through calligraphy.
To me, the brush is like a magic wand.
In the midst of an unexpected life abroad—when I had lost my sense of self and even my place in the world—it was calligraphy that helped me reconnect with society, build my own community, and create a fulfilling life.
My goal is to share this experience with as many people as possible.
Through my calligraphy courses, I offer more than just writing skills.
I provide a space to reconnect with yourself—a time to regain your natural sense of calm and inner balance.
And beyond that, I support those who wish to express themselves and thrive through calligraphy in their own unique way.
I began her Japanese calligraphy (Shodo) training when she was 10 years old.
I have the highest rank master degree of the largest Japanese Calligraphy Association. I have been immersed and trained in the many styles & techniques of Traditional Japanese Calligraphy.
Since becoming a Master, it has been her passion to embody a culmination of those traditional styles into an original expression all her own.
My art comes alive with the ebb & flow of her brush strokes, and through the shapes they take which bring the Kanji ~ Japanese Characters to life and meaning.
